How to Draw a Meerkat

A meerkat standing tall is really just two ovals, a small one for the head and a tall one for the body. Over six steps you add the short arms, the feet, two tiny ears and a thin tail, and then the eyes with their dark patches, the nose and a small smile. Print the tracing worksheet if you want to warm up on the lines before drawing your own.

Questions and answers

How do I draw a meerkat standing up straight?
Make the body a tall oval right under the head, with the two feet at the bottom pointing outward. If the oval leans, the meerkat will look as if it is falling over, so keep it upright.
What if the eye patches look too big?
Keep the dark curve small and close under each eye, only a little longer than the eye itself. You can erase and redraw it, and the tracing worksheet shows the size.
