Duck Coloring Pages

This cheerful duck stands side-on and turns its head to look at you, with a round body, a short tail that tips up, a long curved neck and a flat bill with a rounded end. The little page for ages 3 to 5 shows just the duck in very thick lines. The kids page, for ages 6 to 8, puts it on the grass under one cloud, and the detailed page, for ages 9 to 12, adds a small wooden fence behind it.

Duck facts for kids

  • Ducks have webbed feet that work like paddles when they swim.
  • A duck uses its flat bill to find food in the water, such as plants and tiny bugs.
  • Duck feathers are covered in oil, so water rolls off and the duck stays dry.
  • Baby ducks are called ducklings, and they follow their mother in a line.

How to use this coloring page

  • Little level: fill the big body with one light color first, then make the bill and the webbed feet orange.
  • Kids level: green grass and a blue sky around the white cloud turn the page into a sunny farmyard in minutes.
  • Detailed level: color the fence brown or gray so the duck in front stays bright and easy to see.
  • In class, talk about why ducks can swim without getting wet, then let the children color the feathers.
  • Print at 100% on plain paper. Thicker paper helps if you use markers on the wing.

Pip's idea

Give the duck a rainbow wing, with each wavy bump in a new color, and draw a line of tiny ducklings walking behind it.

Questions and answers

Why does a duck have webbed feet?
The skin between its toes works like a paddle. When the duck swims, its feet push the water back and move it forward, so color the webs as one wide shape.
Why is the duck's bill flat?
A flat, wide bill helps a duck scoop up food from the water and mud, such as plants and small bugs. Orange or yellow are good colors for it.
Which duck page suits a three-year-old?
The little level, for ages 3 to 5. It has only the duck with very thick lines and a few large areas: the body, wing, neck, head and feet.
