How to Draw an African Buffalo
This buffalo looks straight at you, so the drawing starts with its long face in the middle of the page. The heavy body with its shoulder hump goes behind the face, and four strong legs hold it up. Then come the wide horns, the big drooping ears and a thin tail, and a wide nose, two eyes and a small smile finish a friendly buffalo.

Questions and answers
- How do I draw the buffalo's horns?
- Start with a thick band across the top of the face. From each end, draw a curve that goes down beside the face and then turns up into a point. Try to make both sides match.
- Why do the ears come after the horns?
- The ears hang just under the horns. Drawing the horns first shows you where the ears go, so they droop out from below the curves.
